When you're navigating divorce, especially one involving high-conflict dynamics or coercive control, you need more than just legal advice. You need someone who can help you prepare mentally, emotionally, and strategically. That’s where divorce coaching comes in.

But what exactly is divorce coaching, and how is it different from working with a therapist or lawyer?
Let’s break it down.
What Is Divorce Coaching?
Divorce coaching is a goal-focused, strategic form of support designed to help you move through the divorce process with clarity, confidence, and control. Unlike therapy, which explores past wounds or emotional healing, coaching is future-oriented. It’s about what you can do now to protect your peace, make empowered decisions, and avoid being re-traumatized through the legal system.
The Unique Role of a Divorce Coach
As a divorce coach, I work one-on-one with individuals—across Canada and the United States—who are:
- Facing high-conflict or emotionally abusive divorces
- Recovering from coercive control or manipulation
- Feeling overwhelmed, unheard, or confused during legal proceedings
- Wanting to show up with clarity in mediation or court
- Ready to move forward, but unsure how
My role is to provide a safe, trauma-informed space, while also helping you prepare and plan for the road ahead.
Divorce Coach vs. Therapist: What's the Difference?
Therapists help you explore emotional patterns, heal from trauma, and work through mental health challenges. If you're dealing with anxiety, depression, or PTSD, therapy can be life-changing.
Divorce coaching, on the other hand, is not therapy. I don't diagnose or treat mental health conditions—but I do help you:
- Set and stick to boundaries
- Identify patterns in communication with your ex or legal team
- Prepare for mediation, legal appointments, and custody conversations
- Develop scripts or talking points for difficult conversations
- Create action plans for the next phase of your life
For many clients, coaching and therapy work beautifully side by side.
Divorce Coach vs. Lawyer: Why You May Need Both
Your lawyer is there to handle the legal process: drafting agreements, filing motions, representing you in court.
But what if you are panicked before a hearing? Or unsure if your lawyer truly understands the emotional manipulation happening behind the scenes?
That’s where coaching fills the gap.
A divorce coach helps you:
- Prepare emotionally before legal appointments
- Clarify your priorities and red flags
- Document patterns that may impact your case
- Understand your rights and options before you speak with your lawyer
You remain in control—and you save time and legal fees by showing up to your lawyer organized and confident.
Is Divorce Coaching Right for You?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or constantly doubting yourself because of past abuse or high-conflict communication, you don’t have to face this alone.
And if you’re looking for virtual support across Canada or the United States, I’m here to help you reclaim your voice and move forward—on your terms.
